Motorcycle Bottle Valve, Safety Relief Recall
As of 7/12/07, ZEX™ was informed of a product safety recall relating to motorcycle nitrous cylinder valves purchased from an outside manufacturer and used in all of our motorcycle nitrous kits. The component affected by this recall is the safety relief plug installed in these valves (see Motorcycle Bottle Valve image). According to the manufacturer, this plug was incorrectly manufactured from 8/8/06 to 6/8/07.
The purpose of the safety relief plug is to “vent” open to relieve unsafe nitrous cylinder pressure if the bottle has been overfilled or overheated. The incorrectly made safety relief plugs “vent” at a higher pressure than is safe. While this does not create an immediate danger if the cylinder is used in a manner consistent with safe filling procedures, storage, and use; the combination of overfilling a cylinder and exposing it to high (120 deg F or greater) temperature may cause the cylinder pressure to exceed it’s rated pressure, resulting in cylinder failure up to and including bursting.
ZEX™ Part Numbers Affected By This Recall
